Our Impact

Y Australia is committed to creating positive change with young people and communities across the country.

Our 2024–25 Community Impact Report celebrates the collective impact of the Y movement in Australia and the people, programs and partnerships that made this work possible.

Guided by Vision 2030 our work is focused across four global areas of impact: Meaningful Work, Community Wellbeing, Just World and Sustainable Planet. Together, these priorities reflect our shared commitment to empowering young people, strengthening communities and building a better future.

For purpose, not for profit.

The Y Australia is proud to release its 2024 Community Impact Report. Celebrating another year of creating change in our communities, we’re pleased to announce that collectively we’ve had almost 23,000,000 participations in programs and services with a collective turnover of over $650,000,000.

In our progress toward Vision 2030, our impact across each of our strategic pillars has been profound. Here’s a sneak peek into some of the work our Y’s are doing to progress Meaningful Work, Community Wellbeing, a Sustainable Planet and a Just World.

Empowering Communities

Across more than 690 sites nationwide, the Y works alongside communities to create safe, welcoming spaces where people can learn, connect and thrive.
Y Australia supports this work through national leadership, governance, accreditation and advocacy, with a strong focus on child safety and safeguarding across early learning, recreation and childcare.

At a local level, Y Associations deliver services, facilities and programs shaped by community need, from support services and schools to youth leadership programs including Youth Parliament.

In 2024–25, the Y employed 11,719 staff across Australia, with more than half aged under 30, reflecting our ongoing commitment to empowering young people and strengthening communities from within.

Case Study

WA School ReadY Program

In WA, our School ReadY Program is supporting children aged 3-5 to build strong foundations in early literacy and language, social and emotional wellbeing, and numeracy.

As part of the literacy and language component, delivered across all 14 Y WA Early Learning Centres (ELCs), educators use an early oral language screening tool to identify children who may benefit from extra support. To meet the needs of those children, the Y partnered with Edith Cowan University School of Medical and Health Sciences. In a pilot program, the Baldivis ELC welcomed third-year speech pathology students to provide supervised, on the-ground support for 12 weeks in early 2025. This collaboration provided timely intervention, built educator capability, and developed resources that benefit families and children.
