SUPPORTING NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK

Working Together to Keep Children Safe: Supporting Child Protection Week 2025

Y Australia is proud to support NAPCAN’s National Child Protection Week (7-13 September 2025), joining communities across Australia to promote the safety and wellbeing of all children.

This year’s theme, “Shifting conversation to action” highlights the importance of taking conversation into action to ensure children feel safe, connected, and supported. The message is simple yet powerful: we all have a role to play in protecting children.

Alexandra Ash, CEO of Y Australia said, “Child Protection Week is an important reminder that protecting children is everyone’s business. Whether you’re a volunteer, staff member or board member, every conversation counts when it comes to making children feel safe and be safe.”

As part of our commitment to a world where every child is safe, Y Associations around the country are supporting conversations, training and additional events on-site to talk about child safety in communities with children and families.

Y Safeguarding recently completed two training sessions, upskilling Y Australia board members in being a child safe organisation. We also advanced our training of our dedicated safeguarding board sponsors through a tailored session, because our commitment to child safety is critical at all levels of leadership at Y Australia and in our Y Associations across the country.

Y Safeguarding Board Member Prue Warrilow said, “Keeping children safe isn’t just for early childcare educators on the ground, it’s also for board members and investing in conversations and actions like these is what ensure our entire Movement can work together to keep children safe and well.”

Initiatives like this raise awareness, strengthen protective networks, and start meaningful conversations about how we can all contribute to child safety at the Y and in our communities

NAPCAN, the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, has been leading Child Protection Week for over 30 years, promoting prevention strategies and advocating for the voices of children and families to be heard in decisions that affect them.

The Y in? Australia has zero tolerance for any child abuse and is dedicated to ensuring every child can feel safe and be safe.
